The Bible reads, “The women were both terrified and thrilled, and they quickly left the tomb and went to find the disciples and give them this outstandingly good news. But while they were on their way, they saw Jesus Himself” (Matthew 28:8-9a, The Voice).
I love that description – terror and thrill. That was their mixed response to the revelation of the gospel. The rugged cross and empty tomb. When following Jesus, we should never be more scared and we should never be more certain. Why so scared? Because we have never seen life this way before. If not much has changed than we have not changed at all. The world, as we know it, is now flipped upside-down (or actually right-side up). Re-created. Transformed at last.
Why so certain? Because it just seems right. There is this strange sense that this is why we were created to begin with. This is life to the fullest. This is peace – being right with our Creator and right with each other.
The Voice commentators propose, “The disciples don’t know what to think or how to act. Nothing like this has ever happened before” (381).
Is the same true for you?
