Does the King Reign Yet Again?

My brother would be the first to remind me that I have been one of Lebron’s greatest critics over the last couple of years.  But he has simply become the world’s best basketball player.  Not ever.  But now.

Here are my predictions for this year’s NBA Playoffs.  Or what I like to call “the Heat and everyone else.”

Eastern Conference
First Round
Heat vs Bucks: Miami in 4.  Do they really have to even play these games?
Nets vs Bulls:  Chicago in 6.  Why won’t Rose come back?!?!
Pacers vs Hawks:  Indiana in 4.  They are the second-best team in the East.
Knicks vs Boston:  New York in 7.  Melo is a different player than he has ever been.
Conference Semi Finals
Heat vs Bulls:  Miami in 6.  Let’s see how James deals with the punishment.
Pacers vs Knicks: New York in 7.  Battle of the benches.
Eastern Conference Finals
Heat vs Knicks:  Heat in 4.  I hate even typing this.  I hope I am wrong.  I long for a rekindling of this rivalry (which could happen if the series goes at least six).
Western Conference
First Round
Thunder vs Rockets:  OKC in 6.  Cool storyline.
Clippers vs Grizzlies:  Memphis in 6.  LAC has a lot of work to do.  The coach is finished.
Nuggets vs Golden State:  Denver in 7.  But does anyone really care?
Spurs vs Lakers:  SA in 6.  I am actually crossing my fingers for a sweep!
Conference Semi Finals
Thunder vs Grizzlies:  OKC in 6.  These teams always promise for good basketball.
Nuggets vs Spurs:  Denver in 6.  SA is walking-wounded.
Western Conference Finals
Thunder vs Nuggets:  OKC in 5.  Durant is one of the league’s finest.
NBA FINALS
Heat vs Thunder:  Miami in 6.  I will pull for OKC.  Regardless, the NBA might very well find this to be the best rivalry the league has seen since the Magic-Bird era.  Get angry, KD!
Go Knicks.

42

I love baseball.  And I love movies.  So in honor of today’s release of 42 (the Jackie Robinson story), I thought I would share my top ten baseball movies of all time:

  1. Ken Burn’s Baseball.  It is about time and timelessness. Speed and grace.  Failure and loss.  Imperishable hope.  And coming home.
  2. 42.   Your enemy will be out in force.  But you cannot meet him on his own low ground.
  3. Field of Dreams.  If you build it, he will come.
  4. Sandlot.  You’re killing me Smalls.
  5. Eight Men Out.  People are human.
  6. The Natural. I guess some mistakes you never stop paying for.
  7. Bull Durham.  I’m the player to be named later.
  8. 61*.  MVP.  Most Vacant Personality.
  9. A League of Their Own.  By the way, I loved you in The Wizard of Oz.
  10. The Bronx is Burning.  I’ll manage what I want to manage.

By the way, as good as the movie was, the book is so much better.  Read more about Jackie’s life by clicking here.

Experiencing God

I finally got around to reading the highly acclaimed Blackaby work titled Experiencing God.  The authors propose that there are seven realities of experiencing God:

  1. God is always at work around you.
  2. God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal.
  3. God invites you to become involved with him in his work.
  4. God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstance, and the church to reveal himself, his purposes, and his ways.
  5. God’s invitation for you to work with him always leads you to crisis of belief that requires faith and action.
  6. You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what he is doing.
  7. You come to know God by experience as you obey him and he accomplishes his work through you.
A few questions to consider:
  1. Do you believe God is at work around you right now?  If so, what do you sense he is presently doing?
  2. What has God done lately that provided you an opportunity to come to know him more personally than you had before?
  3. Is God inviting you to join him in his activity? If so, what is he asking you to do?
