I just finished Kelly Minter‘s No Other Gods: Confronting Our Modern-Day Idols. I was pleasantly shocked and surprised at the depth of this book. Maybe I was expecting the focus to be on technology, relationship or culture. Minter instead goes right to the heart of the issue. She is often painfully transparent. Though I cannot relate to what it might feel like for a record deal to fall through, I do know what it is like to fear the rejection of others.
My favorite quote is when the Minter warns, “No mater how virtuous or overflowing with integrity and love a friend or spouse may be, no person can possibly always be there for you. This is a place reserved solely for God, a position that only he is capable of, though our experience of his presence is not nearly as consistent as the reality of it” (Kindle, 1375).
This was not one of favorite reads this year – but worth picking up at some point. Let me know what you think.
