Last Christmas, I received a copy of John Vaillant’s The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival.
This book is yet another example of why exchanges are such a fabulous ideas. Though I would never have purchased a copy for myself (out of my areas of interests – at least on the surface), I would highly recommend that others read it. I especially appreciated the references to Russia’s resilient people and complex history (this reminded me of my two visits there).
My favorite quote was when the author proposes, “When Russians wax eloquent about their homeland, they will often invoke Mother Russia, but Mother Russia is not the nation, and She is certainly not the leadership; She is the Land” (78).
Pick up a copy this summer and let me know what you think.
