Island of the Blue Dolphins…

Continuing our journey of reading together (many of the selections being Newbery Medal Award Winners), our family recently completed Scott O’Dell’s Island of the Blue Dolphins.
The list below does not include the works that failed to win the award (but that we still enjoyed together) such as the seven books included in The Chronicles of NarniaHatchet (an honor recipient), The Hobbit, or the The Starcatchers Series.
Here is the list to date (along with my respective reviews)…
  1. The One and Only Ivan (2013)
  2. The Giver (1994)
  3. Island of the Blue Dolphins (1961)
  4. The Tale of Despereax (2004)
  5. Bridge to Terabithia (1978)
  6. Dead End in Norvelt (2012)
  7. Walk Two Moons (1995)
  8. The Whipping Boy (1987)
  9. Out of the Dust (1998)
  10. Bud, Not Buddy (2000)
  11. Kira-Kira (2005)
  12. Shiloh (1992)
  13. Flora & Ulysses (2014)
  14. A Year Down Yonder (2001)
  15. Crispin: The Cross of Lead (2003)
  16. The Midwife’s Apprentice (1996)
  17. A Single Shard (2002)
  18. When You Reach Me (2010)
  19. Holes (1999)
  20. A Wrinkle in Time (1963)
  21. The Higher Power of Lucky (2007)
  22. Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! (2008)
  23. The Graveyard Book (2009)
  24. The View From Saturday (1997)
  25. Missing May (1993)
  26. Moon Over Manifest (2011)
  27. Criss Cross (2006)
As you can see from where the above list, this was one of my favorite selections thus far.
I would describe O’Dell’s book to be similar to The Hatchet with greater historical detail, far more adventure, and much less teenage drama.

Now back to the Peter and the Starcatchers #3:  Peter and the Secret of Rundoon.  Anyone read it and care to share your thoughts?
